The scope
of research activities, both consultancy and action
research, in the Institute changes with the needs of
our economy in transition with dynamic labour force.
The studies provide useful inputs for formulation and
modification of labour related policies and programmes.
Aim is to evaluate implementation
by present law enforcement machinery, and various
programmes and projects concerning labour &
employment
At the outset the research programme
of the Institute had the objectives to identify
and study critical issues affecting labour and employment
in organized industry, agriculture and self-employment
sectors, labour laws, industrial safety and trade
unionism.
To study nature and magnitude
of labour problems, drawing upon research data,
suggest areas which need urgent attention of the
government and the labour and management leaders
so as to initiate suitable action.
To study subjects related to
industrial relations, wages and working conditions,
employment planning and issues related to child
and women workers, migrant workers, home based
workers, contract labour sector. In the rural
areas, research areas include agricultural labour
and employment, rural labour other than agricultural,
self-employed, self-employed artisans and craftsmen,
rural women, migration of agriculture labour for
employment etc.
